BetVictor Sports & Horse Racing App Introduction
BetVictor have been one of the biggest bookmakers in the UK for quite some time now. Coming from quite a humble background of just a handful of high street shops back in the mid 1940's, BetVictor now finds themselves as a truly global brand and have gone on to be one of the elite powerhouses from within the gambling industry. What BetVictor have always worked hard on is innovation from within the company. They decided to change up an already established brand in Victor Chandler in exchange for a more catchy title in BetVictor that they still adopt today. Whilst the changeover probably wasn’t one of the smoothest in the history of re-brands, it's now starting to pay off and sees the company as a real driving force once again. |
To keep up with the ever changing gambling industry, BetVictor saw fit to follow suit and bring out their own mobile betting app. For those of you familiar with their early attempts then you will know that again, this wasn’t exactly a smooth ride. But as a result of their hard work and dedication to provide quality to their punters - and many, many revisions later - their app is now one of the most used in the industry and BetVictor actually claim that over 50% of their total revenue is coming via their betting app.
Horse racing was always going to be a sport that worked well for them, whether that is on their app or on their online site. Like any UK and European facing bookmaker, the sport is going to play a massive role in how they move forward. You only need to look at their online bookmaker and the depth in which the sport is both covered and promoted to realise that it's a sport that is dear to their heart. What will be interesting to see is just how the sport fairs on their betting app, something we will be doing in this review.
Mobile Racing Features
Whilst it's good to see horse racing one of the first picks from the home screen on the app, it's not all that surprising to be honest. Depending on what's going on in the world of sport, you will often find some of the more popular races available directly from the home page of BetVictor, but these are likely only when some of the bigger meetings are on such as Cheltenham, Royal Ascot and the Grand National.
Once you enter the horse racing section you will be greeted with a simple, but really well represented home screen. From here you can flick between the next upcoming races from around the world or simply choose the meeting you want to bet on from today's racing or even tomorrows racing. Further down the page the app allows you to select from future races and ante post markets. Again, this will likely be of the bigger meetings but will include international venues as well as those from the UK and Ireland, of which are the bookmaker's bread and butter.
After choosing your meeting you can then select between each race. This information includes the race start time, distance and also if it includes any live streaming.
The race card is always one of the most important features for us and luckily, BetVictor haven’t disappointed. When you first get in you will be greeted with a simple race overview of how it may pan out. Below that you will find a list of the runners and riders for that race along with current odds. The card really comes alive when you click the Timeform button in the top right of the screen. This not only gives you a much more detailed overview of how the race might pan out, but also a star rating system as to how each horse should perform given their recent form and track record. What we will say is that this Timeform should be used as a guide and whilst it's very handy, especially for those of you just wanting to place a quick bet, there really is no substitute for putting your own time into making picks.
As you move down card, each horse will be given its own synopsis of previous races and just generally any information they think you will need to form a better judgement. What's impressive is that this sort of information is available for pretty much all races, no matter how high a profile they are. The bottom of the card will include some head to head matchups that you can bet on for that race. Also included are betting without markets, again combining to be a very handy little addition.
Whilst not necessarily a feature of the app, we just want to mention how competitive BetVictor are with their pricing. Like a lot of bookmakers they offer a best odds guaranteed promotion where if you place an early bet and your horse goes on to win at a higher starting price then BetVictor will pay out at that higher price. Also, just in general their pricing is absolutely excellent and more often than not they will be within the top three for most races.
As a final point about the app we want to mention the markets that are covered. Obviously the UK and Ireland are pretty much sown up and if they don’t cover every meeting, then they can't be a million miles away. On top of that they include regular racing from France, South Africa, America, UAE and others. Their horse racing section really does feel more of an international app than a domestic.

It's probably fair to say that BetVictor have one of the best looking betting apps in the industry. It's simply stunning and a joy to use without ever being in your face. I feels quite minimalist for the sections which don’t have much going on (meetings etc) then when you get into the Racecard you get the ability to make it as detailed or as simplistic as you like.
It loads really quickly as well and testing it on 3G connections saw next to no lag, even when updating some of the live betting sections. We loved the fact that it included a back button meaning you could go back just one page without having to start over again. This may sound like such a small, insignificant feature but you won't even believe how many apps don’t have it and it drives us crazy!

After giving the BetVictor horse racing app a good going over we are trying to rack our brains as to whether we can think of a better app than this. Possibly only bet365 really gets close to BetVictor and we must say that it's easily one of the best we have come across.
As mentioned, the design is stunning and makes it a joy to use, but it’s the depth in which the app goes into that probably the most impressive. A lot of companies are using the Racing Post for their synopsis of horses and races, but BetVictor have decided to go with Timeform and we think it’s a decision that they are reaping the rewards from.
Saying it’s the perfect app might be taking it too far, but we are all agreed that it's definitely one of the best that we've come across and a must try for horse racing fanatics.
